To mark the beginning of a new year we have expanded our list of activities that you can enjoy on your accessible vacation with Seable. We are thrilled to announce our latest collaboration ‘Tenuta Del Gelso’. Now you can get to experience the process of farming, engage in the ‘orange plantation’ process, enjoy delectable wine tastings, and learn first-hand the agricultural secrets of the farmers of Sicily.
This partner company of ours is conveniently situated in the outskirts of Catania and is a mere ten minutes away from Fontanarossa. The plantation grounds of this company are spread over an area of 65 hectares where not only oranges, but wheat, olives, and other vegetable crops are also grown.
Eco – Tourism:
Our eco-tourism activity for disabled travelers, will allow you to explore the traditional Sicilian agricultural methods first hand.
You will also get to learn about the different types of citrus fruits and their distinctions in physical, cultural, and organoleptic properties. You will learn how each species of orange is put through a different production technique during a different season using unique irrigation, plant care, and collection processes.
While exploring the farm you can indulge in tastings of the produce in rooms that have a unique environment where you can immerse yourself in the history of wine making and the company itself. The tastings are conducted by qualified diploma holders of the ‘National Organization of Wine Tasters’.
You will get to enjoy a buffet of traditional Sicilian cuisine inside the ‘Palmento’, where wine production has been going on since 1800. The buffet will include dishes all made using the fresh produce of the farm and will include delights like black and green olives cream, marmalade, cheese of two different types, pizza’s made using ‘Pane Cunzato’ and ‘Pepato Cheeses’, and Sesame and Zibibbo cookies.
Wine tastings will involve I.G.T. Sicilia Bianco, I.G.T. Sicilia Rosso, Etna D.O.C. Rosso 2007, and liqueur wine Zibibbo.
There is also shop where you can purchase the farm’s produce to take back home.
